Arstechnica has confirmed IE10 will be Windows 7 only.

Looks like IE10 will be Windows 7 only. Due to the need to have IE10 to be the best. No backwards compatibility means better features, and a better browser.

IE9 was a huge improvement over IE8 just like how IE7 was groundbreaking to IE6.

Suspected features are Direct2D, GPU acceleration, and other features.

We shall see if this exclusivity will be good or bad for the browser since IE9 doesn’t work on Windows XP.

Free Computer (Windows) Starter Kit

May 6th, 2010

You got a new computer, but what to put on it? If you have Windows then here is the list you should start with (Mac/Linux users, your computers come with what you want).

Note: Most software maybe pre-installed if brought from a major PC manufacture or store. All programs are free.

Picasa- Picasa allows you to edit your photos, tag them, and upload them with easy.

iTunes- iTunes plays your music, allows you to buy music, rent movies, tv shows, podcasts. Everything you need is there.

Speedfan- Speed fan monitors your computers temptress, only a real concern for laptop users.

Microsoft Security Essentials- MSE is a lightweight anti-virus/anti-malware protection application that will help you stay safe on the web.

Pidgin- Pidgin is lightweight, and allows you to talk to all your friends on many IM networks (MSN, Yahoo, AOL, etc)

CCleaner- CCleaner is perfect for cleaning your computers registry and history.

Auslogics Disk Defrag- Your computer needs its maintenance, defragmenting is part of that. Auslogics is faster, and better than what comes with Windows.

Firefox/Chrome- Firefox and Chrome are perfect web browsers. They are faster than IE, lighter than IE, have spell check, extension, and themes.

Camstudio- If you need to record video on your desktop then Camstudio does it for you.

Gmail- Gmail is a web mail email based service (think hotmail). It has 7GB’s of storage so its more than you need.

Google Docs/Open Office- Google docs is a web based word/powerpoint service. Open Office is basically Microsoft word without the cost.

These applications will help you get started with your new computer. Linux/Mac users already have programs like these, so if you want to save yourself from this then switch.

Windows 7 To Be On 80% Of Organizations PC’s By 2011

April 22nd, 2010

Well Windows 7 is obviously not the train wreak Vista was. As 80% of Organizations are planning to upgrade to Windows 7 by the end of the year. Sure right now is also the natural time when PC’s are refresh, but if they wanted they could delay getting new machines. With Windows 7 being a success it means Microsoft is still the titan it always use to be. Per reports over half of that will be 64-bit versions of W7 which take advantage of more memory, and allow it to be faster.

Windows 7 Going Over Well With IT Community

December 28th, 2009

Looks like Microsoft didn’t pull another Vista.

While IT managers where at first extremely weary of Windows 7 due to the train wreak of Vista, looks like approval for the OS is up.

So much so they are even spending more on the OS.

“About one in five of those surveyed said that Windows 7 has caused their firm to upgrade their PCs faster than they normally would. And while just 3 percent said the new OS caused “significant acceleration” of upgrade plans, 16 percent said Windows 7 led to either “modest acceleration” or “slight acceleration.” -Maximum PC

So looks like XP will die eventually!

Sooner the better that we get the image of vista from our minds.

News: Windows 7 Isn’t The Easiest Upgrade

October 26th, 2009

Now is the time that Windows 7 starts sliding down like vista.

As although it’s nearly impossible to upgrade from XP to Windows 7, which is pissing people off, more things are to;

Students who downloaded their version of Windows 7 report unpacking issues resulting in endless restart reverting to Windows Vista.

Thats not the end though either. The same product key issues as we have all seen are also plaguing new upgrade users. Microsoft says it’s either because you mistyped your key, or your version of windows is pirated.

The result is users pissed off once again over Microsoft because of tiny issues that are expected with an upgrade.

For the record when XP came out in 2001 it was a huge failure. Only SP2 fixed XP. It’s amazing how people will forget it and starting whining over vista.

Although most of you don’t know snow leopard wasn’t all pretty to upgrade. It had its far share of bricking computers, locking apps, and just not upgrading.

Myth: You need to wait for SP1 for Windows 7.

October 23rd, 2009

Myth: You need to wait for the first service pack before windows 7 becomes usable.

Truth: you don’t need to wait for SP1. It had millions of beta testers and is rock solid stable. All applications work, and so do the drivers.

It’s not unexpected that people think you need to wait for SP1 I mean look at windows’ track record…it was hell until SP1-SP2 rolls around. Not with windows 7.

Windows 7 has 75,000 certified to work devices, anything that works with vista works with windows 7, and by now even the slowest devs have added support for vista.

Windows 7′s 8 million beta testers (including me!) meant that it was solidly tested. In beta there was a wiping bug with MP3′s but that was fixed very quickly.

Unlike vista windows 7 was not pushed out the door so all your apps work with windows 7.

The only problem is that some apps like live messenger, and Firefox work but not work fully (the new taskbar issues).

It’s not slow, its fast and lean.

So really don’t wait to get windows 7. Trust me its stable, and is free of bugs.

I tried beta, and have been on the RC for 6 months now, and not one windows 7 crash was seen. A couple of games from 05 had issues making the move but was fixed with a right-click and compatibility set to XP.

So Myth Busted.
