Google Chome V6 Comes Out On Its 2nd Birthday

Google Chrome is now 2 years old and has already hit version 6. That’s a much faster release cycle then any other browser out there.

Google chrome 6 brings extension sync to the masses, as well as a boat load of security and memory corruption bug fixes.

Personally I think Google Chrome is great but Google release cycle of a new version every 6 weeks means we could easily hit version 15 before IE9.

Google has yet to fix (or deal with) memory issues resulting from flash (high memory usage compared to Firefox/IE), and Java issues (Pogo still doesn’t work…).

Google chrome has a 7% market share so it’s not as popular as Firefox but it is dwarfed still by Internet Explorer.

I’ve personally used Google Chrome for a while but since my laptop only has 1GB memory I cant use a browser that uses that much memory (Safari is like that too), that’s why I use FireFox because it uses by far the least memory.

Yahoo Search Is Now Powered By Bing Search In US/Canada

Yahoo has slowly been walking the plank. Last year when Microsoft wanted to buy Yahoo, and they turned it down it was a bad move.

Now Yahoo is almost worthless. So much so yahoo search results in Canada/US are now actually bing results.

The transition is smooth, so nothing should really change. Hopefully this “increase” in usage in Bing will translate in better Bing results.

Too this date google and duck duck go results are still better. So not real change.

Tell me your thoughts, is it cool, bad, ugly or meh?

iPhone 4, Blackberry 9700, Nexus One “Death Grip” Proof

Attenagate is still going around. Proof of it however has been few and far between. The affected smartphones have also been not really known.

Tawkon has made a video showing increased radiation levels (poor signal) on the iPhone, Blackberry, and Nexus one.

Google Closes Down Nexus One Production

Nexus One is Google’s smartphone that never took off. It tried to compete with the iPhone, Blackberry, and Droid but never won the battle.

After a disappointing 50,000 units sold over several months, Google is shutting down the Nexus One Store and production.

Google will still offer support for the Phone, and the phone will still be available to be sold in some local markets in Europe.

Looks like the Nexus One is the only Android Phone to not take off.

Google Adds A Caffeine Boost To Its Search Index

Google is announcing a new update to its search indexing. It’s calling it caffeine because of how much faster that Google will crawl the internet.

Google is saying it will index the web faster because of instead of doing large batch updates, it’s doing small incremental updates. This allows Google to reach new pages, and refresh its cache faster because it no longer was to wait for everything to be done. Google says that it chews through nearly 100 million gigabytes of data.

Microsoft is apparently updating Bing also (thankfully!) to be faster also.

Google Adds iPhone App Results To Searches On Mobile Devices

Google is now showing apps in Google search results. They will appear for Android and iPhone devices. For example if you searched for the app Shazam you will get results for it. This saves time since you no longer need to hunt and peck.

Unknown if this will result in ads for iPhone ads, since Google owns Admob.

Google Stops Using Microsoft Products Over Security Concerns

Financial times is reporting that Google is completely ditching Microsoft products from its whole company. No, it’s not about competition, but rather security concerns over Microsoft’s products.  The security concerns are related to the China hacks earlier this year. Google says that Windows just is to easy to hack and exploit. So much so that its a serious concern for them.

From this point forward Google employes will be allowed to use Linux, and Apple on their desktops and laptops. Google believes that this will result in Google being more secure because of less threats.

Google also likes how Linux is open source which is Google for Google’s bottom line since most of Google is Open Source. They just no longer trust Microsoft with their business critical missions.
