Finally the white iPhone 4 will be launching tomorrow April 28th, 2011 only 10 months after being announced at WWDC.

So far it looks like to be an US only launch (surprise!) so no idea for us fellow Canadian customers. Hopefully soon though icon smile White iPhone 4 Finally Launches .

The white iPhone 4 is naturally not at all different from the original black iPhone 4 except for the change in colour.

We shall see if it will help boost iPhone 4 sales or if it’s too close to WWDC to be worth buying one.

Official Apple Response “We are not tracking you, just collecting a database”

April 27th, 2011

Apple has officially responded on the “Apple is tracking me” fiasco.

Apple’s official response is…we are not tracking your location, just collecting data for a database.

3. Why is my iPhone logging my location?
The iPhone is not logging your location. Rather, it’s maintaining a database of Wi-Fi hotspots and cell towers around your current location, some of which may be located more than one hundred miles away from your iPhone, to help your iPhone rapidly and accurately calculate its location when requested. Calculating a phone’s location using just GPS satellite data can take up to several minutes. iPhone can reduce this time to just a few seconds by using Wi-Fi hotspot and cell tower data to quickly find GPS satellites, and even triangulate its location using just Wi-Fi hotspot and cell tower data when GPS is not available (such as indoors or in basements). These calculations are performed live on the iPhone using a crowd-sourced database of Wi-Fi hotspot and cell tower data that is generated by tens of millions of iPhones sending the geo-tagged locations of nearby Wi-Fi hotspots and cell towers in an anonymous and encrypted form to Apple.

So Apple is changing a lot of things in an upcoming iOS update such as;

  • Encrypting the cache
  • Deleting the cache if you turn of location data
  • Reducing the size of the data cache
  • Not backing up the cache

So basically Apple still “track” you but much more nicely Apple says that this “crowd-sourcing” is for traffic data coming soon.

But make sure to read the full article Apple has provided here.

Why I am not concerned about the “Apple Tracking Nightmare”

Image via CrunchBase

Everyone is up in arms about a new “feature” found in the iPhone/iPad 3G.

What’s the whole issue? There is a file called “consolidated.db”.

The database file stores a detailed log of the GPS movements that is used in maps or etc.

Why is this such an issue? Because now that the database is discovered people will be able to hack into your phone and see where you’ve been right?

Apple may or may not be releasing iOS 4.3.2 soon.

Rumors speculate that iOS 4.3.2 will fix the Verizon iPad 2 issues, Facetime issues, security vulnerability, and other things.

Hopefully this is the case, and hopefully the update comes out soon since alot of people are effected by the bugs in the current software version of the iPad 2.
