iPad Halves US Netbook Sales

September 17th, 2010

Image via Wikipedia

At Best Buy in the US, the iPad has halved the demand for netbook sales. This means that the iPad is a major competitor for netbooks who like Steve Jobs said that there hot, slow, and small.

Naturally this is no surprise because the return rate of netbooks is high, even more so when it has Linux on it.

Hopefully this means netbooks will come to an end since the iPad is a better choice.  It’s thinner, lighter, faster, and has touch.

We shall see in the coming months with the upcoming “iPad 2″ slated for Q1 2011 (reportedly with FaceTime).

I am happy to announce that Canadian Tech Blogger is officially 1 year old! The very first blog post is Tips to help prevent your self from being infected. That’s all the way back in September of 2009.

One year has gone by fast. I have also learnt alot about blogging. My blogging started at blogspot, and then moved to a self hosted wordpress blog (and url) as per thanks of Gabe at http://freebloghelp.com. In July of 2010 CTB moved to wordpress.com where it has happily stayed since.

In my one year of blogging I have learned the need for relevant content, how to utilize the search engines (google, and bing), page rank, what you can and can’t do in the copyright world, that you can’t get rich quickly off blogging, advertising is never the answer, its good to always keep evolving and that friends are what helps keep your blog going. What makes a good post, when to not post a video (haha). Finding out my strengths in blogging (I’m best a tech, worst at reviewing). That juggling several blogs and a forum at the same time lead to no where, and that this whole experience is quite fun.

I have met interesting people, and there blogs along the way like; freebloghelp, onecoolsitebloggingtips, cite technlogican, whats on my pc, gadgetsholic, techzine, and many more.

Today Canadian Tech Blogger is a blog that has little to no advertising (besides what WordPress.com wants to put up – in the rare case), is lightweight, is Page Rank 4, and gets 2,000+ hits a month icon smile Canadian Tech Blogger Turns 1 .

The future can only be greater for me and Canadian Tech Blogger, so let there be more to come icon smile Canadian Tech Blogger Turns 1 . Thanks to all of those who have help make this possible, and Gabe from Free Blog Help for helping me create a blog that I and everyone else can enjoy.

The one thing that I ask is for you to comment on this post, share your experiences – thanks icon smile Canadian Tech Blogger Turns 1 .

IE9 Beta Released For Windows 7

September 15th, 2010

The latest test version of IE9 is now public. IE9 is now available for Windows 7 users. It is not available to Windows XP users due to lack of direct x support. There is demos of IE9 at Beauty of the web.

IE9 Beta Released For Windows 7

The new interface of IE9.

For those who are unaware IE9′s tabs are not right of the address bar (a first for any browser), it has HTML5, and CSS3 support, among other web standards.

Internet Explorer 9 like Chrome 6, and Firefox 4 has GPU acceleration to help speed up HTML5 based components.

Since I am a XP user I cant test IE9 out myself but I can say one thing: I am impressed. Microsoft you have shown that you can restart a browser that has long gone been dead, thanks.

Twitter today has released a new update for its site. Naturally since its rolling out, you have to wait to see when you get it.

.

The layout has changed in the way its kinda like bing. Click on an image and it will appear on the right side, same for videos, and profiles.

“You will now find @mentions, retweets, searches, and lists just above your timeline – creating a single, streamlined view on the left of the screen. On the right, you can see the features you’re familiar with, including whom you recently followed and who recently followed you, favorites, and Trending Topics.”

This will naturally need some getting use to, but Twitter says it handles 90 million tweets per day, and that only 25% of tweets contain a link.

The Wi-Fi only version of the iPad will be slowly rolling out to Argentina, China, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru by the end of the week.

Unknown on a release date for the 3G version (maybe delayed by regulation issues?).

With the iPad coming to China it will open up a whole new market for the device. Apple is still building its brand name in China, so this should help.

For hard core computer enthusiasts who build PC’s for gaming etc, the barrier of air cooling comes in. It’s either not effective enough, or its too loud.

That’s where water-cooling comes in. It can cool your PC and its components at a much lower noise so you can raise clock speeds with little to no issue.

Apple Relaxes iOS App Rules In Favor Of Flash Apps

September 9th, 2010

Apple out of the blue has changed its iOS developer rules to lessen the restriction on 3rd party apps.

Quote from Apple:

“The App Store has revolutionized the way mobile applications are developed and distributed. With over 250,000 apps and 6.5 billion downloads, the App Store has become the world’s largest mobile application platform and App Store developers have earned over one billion dollars from the sales of their apps.

We are continually trying to make the App Store even better. We have listened to our developers and taken much of their feedback to heart. Based on their input, today we are making some important changes to our iOS Developer Program license in sections 3.3.1, 3.3.2 and 3.3.9 to relax some restrictions we put in place earlier this year.

In particular, we are relaxing all restrictions on the development tools used to create iOS apps, as long as the resulting apps do not download any code. This should give developers the flexibility they want, while preserving the security we need.

In addition, for the first time we are publishing the App Store Review Guidelines to help developers understand how we review submitted apps. We hope it will make us more transparent and help our developers create even more successful apps for the App Store.

The App Store is perhaps the most important milestone in the history of mobile software. Working together with our developers, we will continue to surprise and delight our users with innovative mobile apps.”

This is good for app developers who can now make can make an app on pretty much any code base as long as it no longer downloads additional code upon app download.

It is unknown if this means that flash will come to the iOS devices, or flash games. We shall see.
