iPhone 4G Is Real – Is Apple Going To Sue Gizmodo?

April 20th, 2010

Well it looks like yes indeed the iPhone 4G is real. Apple sent a message to Gizmodo to have the device back, and they did give it back. However the damage is done. Per reports Gizmodo bought a iPhone 4G prototype that was left at a bar, but someone who lost it. The phone was not functioning due to Apples remove wipe feature of Mobile Me. Apple is obviously not happy at Gizmodo since it breaks a trade secret law (not just Apples).

If Apple ends up suing Gizmodo for damages it can surely be in the millions. In that case Gizmodo would be forced into closing down. Everyone else who broke the news (Including Engadget) are completely safe from this. It’s unfortunate that a news organization would spend money to break laws, just for page views. Then again magazines do it all the time. Spoiling a major Apple event is a bummer and I am sure Apple is furious. The Apple employee who forgot it there still has his job (for now).

Softpedia has a list of what is known new features (spoiler).

Fix No Auto Scroll in Linux/Mac For Firefox/Chrome

April 19th, 2010

One annoying thing you may miss from Windows is that Chrome/Firefox seem to do not support middle wheel auto scrolling.

Well there thankfully is a fix.

Firefox: Edit –> Preferences. Go to the advanced tab and select “Use Auto-scrolling”. Restart Firefox and boom it now works icon smile Fix No Auto Scroll in Linux/Mac For Firefox/Chrome .

You can also do it via Auto:Config. In the address bar type auto:config. Accept the warning. Type in the box; scroll. Look for the phrase general.autoScroll. Under value set it to true. Restart Firefox.

Chrome: Chrome has yet to have this feature at all!!! There is thankfully an extension. Download AutoScroll from the Chrome Extensions page. Restart chrome and AutoScroll should work.

That is how you fix a “feature” in both Linux, and Mac. Enjoy icon smile Fix No Auto Scroll in Linux/Mac For Firefox/Chrome .

Apple 4G/4th Gen iPhone “Left At A Bar”

April 19th, 2010

There has been a lot of hype or rather news about the 4th generation being left at a bar ~14km from Apples headquarters. CNET, Engadget (who first broke the news), TheAppleBlog, Gizmodo, and PCWorld are reporting news on the supposed leak.

I say supposed leak because if it is a prototype (or near release) version if the iPhone “4G” Apple would have wiped the phone of data (Engadget says it doesn’t work), and gone to go get it. But Apple has naturally not responded to the case.

IF the rumors are true there are changes like a front facing camera, its more slender, more block shaped (like the iPad) and other changes.

We will find out in June if this was fake, real, or was purely done for hype.

Blog Changes

April 18th, 2010

There have been some major blog changes. Namely this blog is now hosted at wordpress.com rather than Godaddy. As such comments are no longer do follow, no comluv, no feedburner rss, no ads (except on the rare time WordPress shows them), and no sharing toolbar. However the blog will load faster, will not have weird loading issues, or any downtime.

We are also part of the wordpress.com community, so tags, category’s, and related posts are part of that. FYI: Some CNN blogs, TechCrunch, TheAppleBlog, and millions of others are on this service. Sure there VIP blogs with more access but it’s the same service icon smile Blog Changes . P.S I did this due to Godaddy issues, and no return on $5 a month. Also please check back on this post as I will be doing a guest post with a fellow wordpress.com member, on how the switch was/why I did it. Sorry for any inconvenience, and hope you understand icon smile Blog Changes .

Google Wants Cloud-Aware Printers

April 16th, 2010

Sounds like a good idea…cloud aware printers. We do have network aware printers but it still means it has to go through a lot of devices before it really does anything. So is cloud aware printers work?

Cloud vs Non Cloud Aware Printers. Credit: Google.

It would  be a new approach to printing. I mean apps that are aware of cloud apps like Gmail is a nice idea. That and I would help out Chromium OS support. While I find the idea nice, I never print anything. Mostly because I see no point but still a good idea.

More info on Cloud Aware Printing is here.

The Good and Bad Of Opera Mini For iPhone

April 14th, 2010

As you may have heard Opera Mini for the iPhone was recently approved. Thats good news right? Well yes and no. While its nice to have a second choice for a browser (that’s not just running web kit) for iPhone, it’s not the best browser either. It is pretty popular though. So I will list off the pros and cons of Opera Mini for iPhone.

Pros:

  1. It’s fast. Since data is compressed (assuming it isn’t already) then the pages load quite speedily.
  2. Speed dial. Saves time typing in web pages.
  3. Perfect Multi-tab experience. Tabs are open in a sliding box so you can easily navigate tabs.

Cons:

  1. Many iPhone sites like cnet, google reader etc do not render in the iPhone mode but rather the desktop mode.
  2. Videos (think youtube/quicktime) do not launch. Videos fail to launch in the browser.
  3. It tends to fail to render pages with any proper rendering.

Overall: It’s nice to have a 2nd browser in the app store but with it not render pages in the proper way its useless.

Apple Delays International Shipment of iPad Until Late May

April 14th, 2010

Guess Apple didn’t expect the iPad to be such a hit did it? Turns out nor did its suppliers. As the international shipment of the iPad will be delayed until late May. Pre-ordering will be available on May 10th. So it’s a bum to most Apple fans but at the current time you can just ship U.S. iPads for an extra charge.

“Although we have delivered more than 500,000 iPads during its first week, demand is far higher than we predicted and will likely continue to exceed our supply over the next several weeks as more people see and touch an iPad™. We have also taken a large number of pre-orders for iPad 3G models for delivery by the end of April.

Faced with this surprisingly strong US demand, we have made the difficult decision to postpone the international launch of iPad by one month, until the end of May. We will announce international pricing and begin taking online pre-orders on Monday, May 10. We know that many international customers waiting to buy an iPad will be disappointed by this news, but we hope they will be pleased to learn the reason—the iPad is a runaway success in the US thus far.

As a result it looks like most of us will have to wait one more month for Apple to get enough in stock.
