How To: Make Internet Explorer Safer

22 Jan

The attacks on Google by China via IE6 show just how much the browser needs to die.

While IE7-8 are not completely invulnerable to the attack, they are much more secure over all.

CNET TV has a video on how to make IE more secure.

Granted IF you can upgrade to an alternative browser like Firefox, or Chrome do so.

This video is for those who can’t, or won’t change, but can upgrade the browser. (Say online tools only work in IE, or company wants you to use IE).

Users of IE6 please upgrade to version 7 or 8 ASAP or switch browsers.

I would stop using Explorer all together, never thought about people not being able to make a switch to something else. Once again only thinking of my own situation. You are correct that many companies want you to use IE only. The company I work for was that way until I showed them why I needed to use Firefox.

My public library is using a IE7 clone, and my school’s computers (380+) are a horrible mix of IE6/7/8.

I try to be sympathetic and do use the darn thing (IE) when I have to in order to help people but I’m a Firefox user.

It’s not only companies that compel their employees to use IE. We see this also in schools, charitable agencies and all levels of government bureaucracy – locked into microsoft. And that’s why spreading the word about these ways to make IE safer is important.

Indeed. Unfortunately all of those IT departments are to blame. They either don’t get around fast enough (like my schools, and public library), or just don’t care.

The only thing I see that are IE dependent now are MSN games, and some online virus scanning tools.
