IE, PDF, and OpenX Blamed In Online China Attacks

January 17th, 2010 by dreamsburnred Leave a reply »

This week 36+ different companies have come forward saying that they where all attacked in the same way Google was.

The companies include: Yahoo, Symantec, Northrop Grumman, and Dow Chemical, and others.

Most have denied to comment.

Apparently the companies in question where using Internet Explorer 6-8, Adobe Reader, and some sites OpenX advertising.

A trojan was executed via a hole in reader, or openx to IE6-8.

Or via emails.

The target was trade secrets.

So update your internet explorer (or download firefox!), update reader (or use a different PDF reader).

OpenX was used in the Adobe attack.

Note: The OpenX attack was a security hole, it can not directly infect your computer, rather they put up malicious ads.

Those ads have since been removed.

So is China to blame for this, or is it just a coincidence.

More info, video.
