While it has been rumors for a while know, it may just come true. But the question is…do we need a Google phone? Since the phone would run on android which is Google, and the phones that run it have the Google logo on it. Odd questions aside, lets see what it’s all about.
It may be VoiP only. Which means the phone will be on the cell networks for data only, and not use any voice on the cell networks. This could be a problem since data rates currently charged by cell companies can be barbaric. Although things can be done.
VoIP (voice over ip) is nothing new, but it being on a cell phone would be new since it technically would not be a cell phone but rather a handheld data device. Smartphone would not cut it either.
Google could also run into serious legal issues if it had a completely Google device. Google earth, maps, search, email, talk, apps, etc. It would mean Google could control your whole experience and like Microsoft that means lawsuits would be headed its way.
So really I am not the only one confused on this matter. Google is trying to hard. Or it’s really trying to flip the bird to Apple. Who knows, we will seen in a few months when its suppose to come out. Tell then we can only speculate.
Update: The rumor is true, its called the Nexus One.
