Opps Our Bad: OpenDNS Blocks Ebay.co.uk as a Phishing Site

October 31st, 2009

OpenDNS on the 29th blocked ebay.co.uk temporally as it was suspected to be a phishing site.

Naturally this confused users who though it was a scam this while time.

They quickly removed it and apologized with:

“While we take measures to ensure that all sites are indeed valid phishes this one somehow fell through the cracks. We have removed it from our database and added it to our global whitelist to prevent it from happening in the future.”

Once again this shows how in the cloud services can always pull a bad one and spoil the fun for everyone.

Zinc-Air Batterys?

October 31st, 2009

Zinc-Air rechargeable batteries could be the biggest technology evolution this year.

“In scientific terms, these batteries rely on reduction/oxidation reactions between a zinc and air (oxygen) electrodes. By using new gelling and binding agents, the previously single use batteries can be recharged. They have been tested for up to 100 cycles, but could be capable of 300-500.” -Maximum PC

So could this be the tech for electric cars and small devices? As they are much greenier then current lithium-ion batteries (which are also HEAVILY patented).
