1. Install a antivirus. Mac users install ClamXav (yes mac users you need to use a antivirus software). Linux users your safe as of this post.

2. Turn on (if not already on) windows update and update everything. This will take a while. Note: Mac and linux users look for software update (either on the dock or on the top menu bar).

3. If you bought it from the store go to add/remove and google the software’s name to see if you REALLY need it. (Windows only).

4. If not already setup user accounts (with passwords) for other users. Its a time saver and its safer.

5. Secure your wireless network (if you have one). Encrypting your network protects your network from hackers and free loaders.

6. Search for updated drivers and install them. (Vista, Windows 7, mac, and linux users no longer have to do this, your system update should take care of this).

7. Restart the computer (when all the rest of the steps are done). This ensures everything was applied.

8. Apply your favorite desktop background. It adds a personal touch.

9. Install your favorite applications.

10. Ensure windows firewall or your routers firewall is on. (Mac users, and linux users may or not have firewalls so double check on google).

11. Have fun icon smile Tasks to do when you get that new computer (Checklist) .
