SQL injection is the common attack vector
It looks like more high profile websites are becoming victim to SQL, XSS attacks, or DDoS attacks.
Which could leave all the information on the site open to who ever wants it, a virus could be injected into the site, or the site could be completely down to its users.
Unfortunately if the website is up to date on software (which its usually not) the site could be held victims to these attacks. The only defense is administrators that watch over the website like a hawk.
